Our Daily Scripture- 4/21/23

SCRIPTURE:  JOSHUA 6

The Lord commanded Joshua with this instruction: “March around the city over with all the armed men.  Do this for 6 days.  Have 7 priests carry the trumpets of ram’s horn in front of the ark.  On the 7th day, march around the city 7 times with the priest blowing the trumpets.  When you hear the sound’s long blast on the trumpets have all the people give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up, every men straight in.” (vs. 2-5)

So they did what God had told them to do.  On the 7th day, Joshua commanded the people to spare Rahab and all her family members who were with her in her house.  When the trumpet sounded, the people shouted and the wall collapsed.  Every man charged in and took the city.  They destroyed every living thing and burned the whole city.  They put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze a and iron into the treasury of the Lord’s house.

THOUGHTS:

God told Joshua how to conquer Jericho with his instructions.  God has also outlined for us in His Word on how to conquer the obstacles of our daily life.  Do not insist on following our own plans as it will ultimately fail.

The Canaanites saw  Israel’s God as:

  1.  Nature god – He parted the Jordan River.
  2. War god – He defeated kings Sihon and Og.
  3. Fortress god – He prevail against a walled city.

The city of Jericho was one of the oldest cities in the world with walls up to 25 feet high and 20 feet thick.  It was a symbol of military power and strength and the Canaanites considered it as  invincible.  But the attack of the city put them the fear of Israel’s God.

God demanded the Israelites to destroy almost everyone and everything because of their evil practices of idolatry.  God’s purpose was to keep the people’s faith and religion uncontaminated.  God also wants us to be pure in our behavior.  we must reject any objects that are reminders of a life of rebellion against God.
