Our Daily Scripture – 5/14/23

SCRIPTURE:  JUDGES 5

THE SONG OF DEBORAH (vs.1-31)

Deborah and Barak fought the battle together.  When they got the victory, Deborah composed a song to praise God.  She described that leaders should be willing to be an obedient soldier knowing that God wi;l be with them.  They must have faith and courage.  She praised Jael for striking Sisera.  Two women rejoiced in victory while one woman, the mother of Sisera wept in sorrow.  When Israel was in despair and darkness, Deborah took over and brought the dawning of a new day.

THOUGHTS:

Because the Israelites chose to go their way, they go into sins and suffered twenty years of unbreakable circumstances.  So, they  cried to the Lord for help.  This reaches us not to control our lives our way.  We need God’s help by staying in daily constant withy the Lord. to get strength and seek guidance.

Barak was supposed to lead the army but he told Deborah to go with him.  Deborah trusted God.  She stepped out at God’s command.  She was also a prophet who also influence and encourage people to obey God.

Heber was the husband of Jael who had friendly relations with Jabin, king of Hazor.   Sisera was fighting for Jabin.  While in the battle, Sisera’s army died by sword and Sisera fled to the tent of Heber.  Jael gave him a drink and pretended to welcome him.  But when Sisera was lying asleep, Jael striked his temple with a peg and he died.  Jael became a brave an resourceful woman.
