SCRIPTURE:  RUTH 4

BOAZ MARRIES RUTH (vs. 1-12)

Boaz took 10 of the elders of the town with the kinsman-redeemer together.  he then told the kinsman redeemer that Naomi, the wife of Elimelech was selling the price of land.  Since he has the right to redeem, he can redeem it.  The kinsman agreed to redeem it.  But Boaz said: “On the day you buy the land from Naomi and from Ruth the Moabite, you acquire the dead man’s widow in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property” (v. 5).  At this, the kinsman redeemer refused to redeem it because it might endanger his own estate.  So, the kinsman redeemer told Boaz to buy it.  He took off his sandal as the method of legalizing the transaction in Israel.  So, Boaz told the people to be the witness that he had bought from Naomi all the properties of Elimelech, Kilion and Mahlon and acquired Ruth, the Moabite, Mahlon’s widow as his wife.  Then ten elders stood as witnesses and blessed him.

THE GENEALOGY OF DAVID (vs. 13-22)

Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife.  The Lord enabled her to conceive and gave birth to a son.  The women said to Naomi: “The Lord had not left you without a kinsman redeemer.  May he become famous through Israel.  he will renew your life and sustain you in your old age.  For your daughter-in-law who loves you and who is better to you than 7 sons, has given him birth” (14)Naomi took the child and name him Obed.  He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.

THOUGHTS:

This book began with sadness and ended with gladness.  It stated with famine and closed with fullness. Ruth’s selfless love foro her mother-in-law and her willingness to obey the Word brought her joy and blessings.

Boaz was a picture of Christ, our kinsman-redeemer.  Because Christ loves us, He paid the price to redeem us so that we can have the heavenly inheritance.

Naomi’s husband left their land without seeking the will of God.  His decision had paid a high price.  Sometimes, we week satisfaction from the world without consulting God and become backsliders.  But God is willing to forgive and restore.

God brought great blessings to Naomi because she continued to trust in God.  Be like Naomi.  When tragedy strikes, trust him.  He will be with you in hard times.

Ruth’s faithful obedience, her life and legacy were significant.  Let us live in faithfulness to God because the rewards will outweigh any sacrifice you may have made.
