SCRIPTURE: 1 SAMUEL 9
SAMEUL ANOINTS SAUL (vs. 1-27)
Saul was a Benjamite, the son of Kish. he was a young impressive young man who was taller than any of the others. Now Kish lost two of his donkeys and he told Saul to look for them. Saul took one of their servants and went from Ephraim to Shalisha and Shaalim but the donkeys were not there. The servant suggested to see a man of God who could tell them which way to go. So they went ahead and was able to find Samuel.
Before Samuel came, the Lord had revealed to Samuel to anoint a leader from Benjamin who will be their king to deliver the Israelites from the hand of the Philistines. When Saul saw Samuel, he approached him and asked him where the seer’s house was. Samuel told him he was the one. He told him not to worry about the lost donkeys. He invited Saul to eat with him. Then they got ready to go on their way. But Samuel told the servant to go ahead while Saul stayed because Samuel will give him a message from God.
THOUGHTS:
The donkey was a prized animal and was used by the royalty. When Saul’s father told him to look for the lost donkey, Saul was obedient and willing to do the hard task of finding it. It was due to this incident tat Saul was able to meet Samuel. Sometimes, we don’t know why things have happened but He does it because he wants to accomplish His will.
