SCRIPTURE: 1 SAMUEL 21
DAVID AT MOB (vs. 1-9)
David went to Nob and met Ahimeleh, the priest. He asked for 5 loaves of bread. But the priest had only some consecrated bread to give him. David also asked for a spear or sword. Ahimeleh gave him the sword of Goliath being wrapped in cloth behind the ephod. Doeg are Edomites and Saul’s head shepered was there and knew everything David and Abimelech had done and said.
DAVID AT GATH (vs. 10-15)
David fled to Achish, king of Gath. But the servants told Achish that David was the one whom they said: “Saul has slain his thousands and David his ten of thousand”. Upon hearing this, David was afraid and pretended to be insane like a madman making marks on the doors of the gate and letting saliva run down his beard. When Achish saw David like a madman, he told his servants to get rid of him.
THOUGHTS:
David went to the priest Ahimelech and lied that the king had charged him with a mission. Ahimelech gave him the bread that was supposed to be for the priest only and the sword of Goliath. However, one of Saul’s spies reported to Saul and this eventually led to treachery and bloodshed.
