SCRIPTURE: 2 SAMUEL 8
DAVID’S VICTORIES (vs. 1-16)
God was with David and he gave victory wherever he went. Among the enemies he defeated were:
- Philistines
- Moabites – descendants of Lot
- Hadadezer – king of Zobah
- Araneans of Damascus
- Edomites – descendants of Esau
- Ammonites
- Amalekites.
David took gold shields that belonged to the officer of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem. He also took a great quantity of bronze from the town of Tebah and Berothai that belonged to Hadadezer.
Hadadezer, King of Zobah had been at war with Tou, king of Hamath. When Tou heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer, he sent his son Joram to bring articles of silver, gold and bronze to David. David dedicated all the articles to the Lord. He became famous after he returned from striking out 18,000 Edomites on the Valley of Salt. All the Edomites became subject to David.
THOUGHTS:
David risked his life to gather wealth and materials for Solomon to build the temple. He did the will of God by humbling himself and exalting God’s name. If God wants you to help someone else to fulfil your dram, are you willing to submit?
