SCRIPTURE: 2 SAMUEL 9
DAVID AND MEPHIBOSHETH (vs. 1-13)
There was a servant in Saul’s household named Ziba. David called him and asked” “Is there no one still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?” (v. 3) Ziba answered the king: “There is still a son of Jonathan named Mephibosheth who is crippled on both feet. He is at the house of Makir, son of Ammiel in Lo Debar” (v. 4) King David had Mephibosheth brought to him. When Mephibosheth came to David, David showed kindness to him for the sake of Jonathan. He restored to him all the lands that belong to Saul and told him to always eat at his table.
The he summoned Ziba and his sons to farm the land for Mephiboseth and bring in the crops to provide for Mephiboseth. So Mephiboseth ate at David’s table like his son and lived in Jerusalem.
THOUGHTS:
Kind David kept his promised to Jonathan by showing kindness to his crippled son Mephiboseth. he treated him like one of his own sons and gave him all the lands that belonged to Saul. David practice kindness an evidence of his friendship of love and mercy. Are you kind to your friend? Will you be generous to those less deserving? Sharing compassion is one of the character of God’s children.
