SCRIPTURE: ESTHER 10
THE GREATNESS OF MORDECAI (vs. 1-3)
King Xerxes imposed tribute throughout the empire to its distant shores. The books of the annals of the kings of Media and Persia had recorded all the power and might of king Xerxes together with the full account of the greatness of Mordecai. Mordecai ranked second to king Xerxes and held in high esteem by his fellow Jews because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews.
THOUGHTS:
The book closes with the report of the promotion and prosperity of Mordecai. Mordecai used his power and authority to lift the burden of the oppressed and helped them in need. People placed by God in position of power should not abuse their authority and become corrupt. Instead, they should display Christian values and show good testimonies.
The Book of Esther testified the absolute power and divine providence of God. Esther risked her life by appearing before the king and became a heroine. Mordecai whom Haman condemned to death rose to become the second highest ranking official in the nation. No matter how hopeless your condition, you need not despair, for God is in control of the world.
