SCRIPTURE: PSALMS 13
MEMORY VERSE:
“But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me.” (Psalms 13:5-6)
DAVID ASKED GOD “HOW LONG” 4 TIMES:
- How long will you forget me forever” (v. 1a)
- How long will you hide your face from me? (v. 1b)
- How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and everyday have sorrow in my heart? (v. 2a)
- How long will my enemy triumph over me? (v. 4b)
David wished that God would answer him and give light to his eyes so that his enemies will not win over him or rejoice in his fall. However, David trusted in God’s unfailing love, rejoiced in His salvation by heart and said praises to the Lord for He had been good to him.
THOUGHTS:
- ASKING – David asked God 4 times “How Long”. He was waiting for God’s answer. He had examined his heart and could not understand why God had abandon him.
- ARGUING – David argued: (1)-Would God be glorified when His people are defeated? (2)-Would God let the enemy rejoice when His people fall?
- AFFIRMING – Despite of his situation, David still affirmed his confidence in God. (1)-I trust in your unfailing love. (2)-My heart rejoice in your salvation. (3)-I will sing to the Lord for he has been good to me.
David frequently claimed that God was slow to act on his behalf. Sometimes, we also feel the same way. It seems that evil and suffering go uncheck and we are in wonder when God is going to stop them. David affirmed to continue to trust in God no matter how long he had to wait for God’s justice to be realized. When you are impatient, remember to emulate David’s steadfast faith in God’s unfailing love.
