SCRIPTURE: PSALMS 7
Memory Verse:
“I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.” (Psalms 7:17)
Cush was a Benjamite who flattered Saul and made life difficult for David. David took refuge in God and pleaded with God the following:
- Arise, O Lord, in your anger; rise up against the rage of my enemies. Awake, my God’ decree justice. (v. 6)
- Rule over them. (v. 7)
- Judge the people and judge me. (v. 8)
- Bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure. (v. 9)
DAVID’S CONFIDENCE IN GOD:
- God the Most High is his shield (v. 10)
- God is a righteous God. (v. 11)
- He will sharpen his sword, bend and string his bow, prepare his deadly weapons and makes ready his flaming arrows to those who do not relent. (v. 12-13)
CONSEQUENCES OF DOING EVIL:
- He gives birth to disillusionment. (v. 14)
- He falls into the pit he has made. (v. 15)
- He recoils himself with trouble. (v. 16a)
- His violence comes down on his own head. (v. 16b)
THOUGHTS:
WHEN YOU HAVE A “CUSH” IN YOUR LIFE, DO WHAT DAVID DID:
- Be honest with God – He let God examine him and punish him
- Let God be the judge – Turn the matter to him and let him be your defense.
- Wait on the Lord – Let god bring the punishment.
- Give thanks to the Lord – Sing praises and give thanks to the Lord because His righteousness prevails.
David wrote this Psalms in response to the slanderous accusations of those who claimed he was trying to kill Saul and seize the throne. Instead of taking the matter into his own hands and striking back, David cried out to the Lord for justice. If you have been falsely accused or so badly hurt, follow David’s footstep because God says vengeance is mine.
We cannot avoid the existence of evil in this world. Innocent people encounter violence and experience being deceived. Sometimes God intervenes and stop evil doers. But sometimes, God allows evil to continue for reasons only known to him. Remember that God will execute final justice although it may not be during our lifetime.
