SCRIPTURE: PSALM 55
MEMORY VERSE:
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” (Psalm 55:22)
When the enemies of David brought down suffering upon him, he prayed to God saying:
- Listen to my prayer (v. 1)
- Hear me and answer me. (v. 2)
- Confuse the wicked, O Lord, confound their speech. (v. 9)
- Let death take my enemies by surprise; let them go down alive to the grave. (v. 15)
David’s heart was in anguish and terrors of death assailed him. Fear and trembling beset him and horror had overwhelmed him. But he called to God and God heard him. The Lord brought down the wicked into the pit of corruption.
THOUGHTS:
David was surrounded with troubles, terrors and treachery. He wanted wings a like a dove so he could fly away from the anguish he was experiencing. When he called on God, God heard him and let him stay under the shadow of his wings. He enabled him to overcome all his problems. He brought down the wicked into the pit of corruption.
David was betrayed by his own friends. The word from his friend hurt him tremendously. Real friends are supposed to stick together in times of troubles and bring healing, love, acceptance and understanding. What kind of a friend are you?
When you have burdens, take it to the Lord. Trust in his strength to sustain you for he will carry your cares.
