Our Daily Scripture – 2/12/24 (Monday)

SCRIPTURE:  PSALM 77

MEMORY VERSE:

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.  I will meditate on all your works, and consider all your mighty deeds.” (Psalm 77:11-12)

Asap had sleepless nights of despair during the days of trouble.  He wrestled with God and could not understand why the Lord did not keep his promise and deliver His people from bondage.

He asked these questions:

  1.  Will the Lord reject forever?  Will he never show his favor again? (v. 7)
  2.  Has his unfailing love vanished forever?  Has his promise failed for all time? (v. 8)
  3.  Has God forgotten to be merciful?  Has he in anger withheld his compassion? (v. 9)

But when Asap meditated on Israel exodus from Egypt, he remembered how God delivered them from the Red Sea.  He recalled the many miracles of long ago and meditated on all his works and mighty deeds.  He came to the conclusion that God is great who performs miracles and displays power among the people.  He had redeemed His people with His mighty arm.  God’s way is the best way.  We need not understand it but we just follow his leading.

THOUGHTS:

The source of Asaph’s distress was doubt.  But when he cried out to God for courage, his focus changed from doubt to God’s holiness and care for him.  That was how his distress was eliminated.  When you encounter trials and feel helpless, pray to God and shift your focus to His wonders and miracles.  This will strengthen your faith in Him.
