Our Daily Scripture – 2/16/24 (Friday)

SCRIPTURE;  PSALM 81

MEMORY VERSES:

“Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob! Begin the music, strike the tambourine, play the melodious harp and lyre. (Psalm 81:”1-2)

“You shall have no foreign god among you; you shall not bow down to an alien god.  I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt.  Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.” (Psalm 81:9-10)

Asap wanted the people to participate in a joyful celebration.  This is a response of gratitude for what God had done for them.  He warned the people not to have foreign gods and not to bow down to an alien god.  Failure to listen and obey would suffer the punishment of enemy’s invasion.  But those who follow God would be fed with the fruit of wheat with honey from the rock. (v.16)

THOUGHTS:

The holidays recounted God’s great miracles to the nation of Israel.  These were times of rejoicing and times to renew one’s strength for life’s daily struggles.  As we celebrate special days like Christmas, Easter or Thanksgiving, let us remember the spiritual origins and use them as opportunities to worship God for his goodness and mercy to us.
