SCRIPTURE: PSALM 89
MEMORY VERSES:
“I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself.” (Psalm 89:1-2)
“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.” (Psalm 89:14)
The author of this Psalm is Ethan the Ezrahite. Ethan knew that God had made covenant with David that his throne will rule forever. But when Ethan saw one of the Davidic kings had been defeated in war and lost his throne, he was confused and thought that God had broken His covenant and was not faithful to His people.
Ethan mentioned about all the mighty deeds God had done and the promises of God to His people. But now he saw rejection, defeat and destruction. He was questioning God’s love and faithfulness.
Ethan suffered spiritual short sightedness because the ultimate fulfillment of the Davidic covenant is in Jesus Christ, the Son of David who will reign forever. His faithfulness never fails.
THOUGHTS:
We should never judge God’s faithfulness on the basis of what we see or how we feel. Always remember that He is a faithful and loving God and He always keeps His promises. He is completely reliable and can be trusted.
