Our Daily Scripture – 3/13/24 (Wednesday)

SCRIPTURE:  PSALM 107

MEMORY VERSES:

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever” (Psalm 107:1)

“Let them give thanks to the Lor for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men” (vs. 8, 15, 21, 31)

“Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.” (Psalm 107:22)

“Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders” (Psalm 107:32)

THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE TOOK GOD’S MERCY FOR GRANTED.  BUT GOD STILL HEARS THEIR CRY:

  1.  Travelers (vs. 4-9) – They wandered in the desert and God delivered them from their distress and led them by a straight way to settle at a city.  He satisfied the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
  2.  Prisoners (vs. 10-16) –  They were subjected to bitter labor, imprisoned in iron chains but God brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their gates of bronze and bars of iron.
  3.  Sufferers (vs. 17-20) – They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death but God saved them from their distress by healing them and rescuing them from the  grave.
  4.  Sailors (vs. 23-32) – A tempest lifted high the waves and they mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths.  They reeled and staggered like drunken men and were at their wits’ end.  But the Lord stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed and calm down.  He guided them to their desired haven.
  5.  Farmers (vs. 33-38) – The rivers became a desert and fruitful land became a salt waste.  But the Lord turned the desert into pools of water and parched ground into flowing springs..  And he brought the hungry to live and settle them in a city.  They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest.
  6.  People (v. 39-43) – Their numbers decreased and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow.  But God lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks.

THOUGHTS:

This Psalm speaks of different types of people in distress and how God rescues them.  We may sometimes fall under any of those categories, but remember that no matter how extreme our calamities, God is loving and kind to those who are in distress.  He will surely help us tackle our problems.  He offered himself to guide us, to provide us and give us rest.  Have you received his life-giving offer?
