Our Daily Scripture – 5/6/24 (Monday)

SCRIPTURE:  PROVERBS 7

MEMORY VERSES:

“My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.  Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.  Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.  Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call understanding your kinsman; they will keep you from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words.” (Proverbs 7:1-5)

WARNINGS AGAINST THE ADULTERESS (vs. 1-27)

DESCRIPTION OF A ADULTERESS:

  1.  She is loud and defiant. (v. 11a)
  2.  Her feet never stay at home. (v. 11b)
  3.  She lurks in the streets, in the squares and at every corner. (v. 12)
  4.  She took hold of the young man and kiss him. (v. 13)
  5.  She prepared a fellowship offering a home. (v. 14)
  6.  She covered her bed with colored linens from Egypt. (v. 16)
  7.  She perfumed her bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon. (v. 17)
  8.  She invited the young man to enjoy love with her. (v.18)
  9.  she cheated her husband while he was on a long journey. (v. 19)
  10.  She said persuasive words to lead man astray and seduced him with her smooth talk. (v. 21)

RESULT OF BEING SEDUCED BY AN ADULTERESS:

  1.  He is like an ox going to the slaughter. (v. 22)
  2.  He is like a deer stepping into a noose till an arrow pierces his liver. (v. 22)
  3.  He is like a bird darting into a snare that will cost his life. (v. 23)
  4.  He is being brought to the highway of grace leading to the chambers of death. (v. 27)

THOUGHTS:

Invite wisdom to be your sister so that you will not be seduced by the temptress.  Keep God’s command and guard his teachings as the apple of your eye.  Bind them on your finger and write them on the tablet of your heart. (vs. 1-4).  Then your feet will not go near her house.  You are aware of her enticement so that your heart will have no desire for her.

The adulteress put on linens of Egypt to cover her bed.  But expensive tapestries cannot cover the seriousness of sin.  She anointed perfume on her bed with perfume, myrrh, aloes and cinnamon.  But those aromatic spices cannot turn the evil sin into fragrant perfume.  Therefore, be alert.  Do not be seduced by her persuasive words and smooth talk.  Do not turn to her ways nor stray into her paths. Otherwise, she will drag you down to the level of a beast into the chamber of death.
