SCRIPTURE: SONG OFF SONGS 6
The friends of the Beloved noticed that her lover was missing. So they offered to look for him. The Beloved answered that he has gone down to his garden to the beds of spices, to browse in the gardens and to gather lilies.
THE LOVER DESCRIBED HIS BELOVED AS FOLLOWS:
- You are beautiful, my darling, as Tirzah, lovely as Jerusalem, majestic as troops with banners. (v. 4)
- Your eyes overwhelm me. (v. 5a)
- Your hair is like a flock of goats descending from Gilead. (v. 5b)
- Your teeth are like a flock of sheep coming up from the washing in twins. (v. 6)
- Your temples behind your veil are like the halves of a pomegranate. (v. 7)
- My dove, my perfect one one is unique, the only daughter of her mother, the favorite of the one who bore her. (v. 9a)
- She was called blessed by the maidens and praised by the queens and concubines. (v. 9b)
THOUGHTS:
When the Beloved said that I am my lover’s and my lover is mine, it means that she and her lover belonged to each other. Their marriage is a complete union of mind, heart and body. Her friends begged her to remain so that they might enjoy her beauty. This is a question worth asking. Do believers impress the world with their beauty and Christlikeness?
