SCRIPTURE:  SONG OF SONGS 4

LOVER’S APPRECIATION OF HIS BELOVED’S BEAUTY: (vs. 1-15)

  1.  Your eyes behind your veil are doves.
  2.  You hair is like a flock of goats descending from Mount Gilead.
  3.  Your teeth are like a flock of sheep just shorn, coming up from the washing.
  4.  Your lips are like a scarlet ribbon.
  5.  Your mouth is lovely.
  6.  Your temples behind your veil are like the halves of a pomegranate.
  7.  Your neck is like the tower of David, built with elegance.
  8.  Your two breasts are like two fawns of a gazelle that browse among the lilies.
  9.  Your love is more pleasing than wine.
  10.  Your lips drop sweetness as the honeycomb
  11.  Underneath your tongue are milk and honey.
  12.  You are a garden locked up.
  13.  You are a spring enclosed, a sealed fountain.
  14.  Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates with choice fruits, with henna and nard, nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with every kind of incense tree, with myrrh and aloes and all the finest spices.
  15.  You are a garden fountain, a well of flowing water streaming down from Lebanon.

BELOVED’S INVITATION TO HER LOVER: (v. 16)

  1.  Awake and come.
  2.  Blow on my garden.
  3.  Come and taste its choice fruits.

THOUGHTS:

The Beloved and the lover praised each other using beautiful imagery to express their intense feeling of love and admiration.  The lover called his Beloved my darling, my bride, and my sister.  Partners in marriage should continually work at refreshing each other with encouraging words, unexpected gifts, a surprise call or note.  Strive to be a haven of refreshment for each other.

God is testing you how fair you are to His sight.  Listen to His voice and rest in His love.  Believe in His word and live to please Him.  Although you cannot see Him physically, but you can look at the world He has made.  You have to open your life to Him and invite Him to enjoy your love.
