Our Daily Scripture – 7/3/24 (Wednesday)

SCRIPTURE:  ISAIAH 14

MEMORY VERSE:

“For the Lord Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him?  His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back? (Isaiah 14:27)

The Lord will have compassion on Jacob by choosing Israel to settle them in their own land.  They will make captives of their captors and rule over their oppressors. (v. 2) The Lord gives them relief from suffering and turmoil and cruel bondage.

A PROPHECY AGAINST BABYLON (vs. 1-23)

Isaiah prophesied the downfall of Babylon.  They became weak and were being brought down to the grave.  The name of Babylon, her survivors, her offspring and descendants will be cut off.  The Lord Almighty will turn her into a place for owls and into swamp land and sweep her with the broom of destruction.

A PROPHESY AGAINST ASSYRIA (vs. 24-27)

The Lord has sworn to crush and trample the Assyrians.

A PROPHESY AGAINST PHILISTINES (vs. 28-32)

God will destroy the root of Philistines by famine and slay her survivors.  For the Lord has established Zion and His people will find refuge.

THOUGHTS:

The historical city of Babylon will permanently be destroyed.  Babylon was being used as a picture of all those who oppose God.  In the end times, all those who oppose God will be destroyed and all will be removed from the earth forever.
