SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 18
A PROPHECY AGAINST CUSH (vs. 1-7)
The people of Ethiopia were the ancient Cush. They sent ambassadors to Israel forming a strong alliance against Assyria. Their venture failed because the Assyrian was God’s plan. Before the harvest, when the flowers become a ripening grape, God will cut off the shoots with pruning knives and take away the spreading branches. The birds and the wilds animals will eat them all.
THOUGHTS:
This prophecy was given during the reign of Hezekiah. When the king of Ethiopia heard that the Assyrian’s great army was marching towards them, he sent messengers to the surrounding nations involving Judah to form an alliance. But Israel told the messengers to return because Judah only needed God’s help to repel the Assyrians. Isaiah prophesized the Assyrians would be destroyed at the proper time.
