SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 43
MEMORY VERSES:
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set your ablaze.” (Isaiah 43:2)
“Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you, and people in exchange for your life.” (Isaiah 43:4)
“I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers you sins no more.” (Isaiah 43:25)
ISRAEL’S ONLY SAVIOR (vs. 1-13)
WHO IS GOD?
- He created you and formed you and redeemed you. (v. 1)
- He will be with you when you pass through the waters, the rivers, and the fire. (v. 2)
- He is the Lord, the Holy One and the Savior. (v. 3)
- No god was formed before Him. (v. 10)
- He is the Lord and apart from Him, there is no Savior. (v. 11)
- When He acts, no one can reverse it. (v. 13)
- He is Israel’s Creator and king. (v. 15)
- He provides water in the desert and streams in the wasteland to give drink to His people. (v. 20)
- He blots out your transgressions and remembers your sins no more. (v. 25)
GOD’S MERCY AND ISRAEL’S UNFAITHFULNESS (vs. 14-28)
God’s mercy had redeemed the Israelites from the Babylonians. But the people of Israel did not call upon God. They did not brought Him sheep for burnt offerings nor honored Him with their sacrifices. Instead, they burdened Him with sins and offenses. Therefore God will disgrace the dignitaries of their temple and consign Jacob to destruction and Israel to scorn.
THOUGHTS:
God is our Savior and redeemer. His the Lord, the Holy One, and the creator of heavens and earth. He loves us and knows our name. He promises to be with us through thick and thin. He blots out all our sins so that we can enjoy eternal life with Him. Therefore, we must accept God’s mercy with a faithful heart to trust and obey His Word.
Isaiah told the world who God is and what He had done. Believers today must share the responsibility of being God’s witness. Do people know who God is like through your words and example?
