SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 46
MEMORY VERSES:
“Even to your old age and gray hairs, I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” (Isaiah 46:4)
“I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.” (Isaiah 46:10)
GODS OF BABYLON (vs. 1-13)
Prophet Isaiah talked to the Babylonians and warned them about their sins of idolatry. He contrasted Jehovah and the gods of Babylon. The idols must be carried. Jehovah is a God who carries His people. The false god is made by man. The true God created men. The false god cannot predict the future or control history, but Jehovah makes known the end from the beginning, from ancient time till what is still to come. The idols are all alike but Jehovah is the only true God. There is no other and there is none like Him.
THOUGHTS:
Israel was tempted to the pagan gods. Isaiah affirmed the sole lordship of God. The true God is unique in his knowledge. He is in control of the future. He carries out what he plans with a consistent purpose. Therefore, we must commit ourselves only to God.
