SCRIPTURE:  ISAIAH 59

SIN, CONFESSIONS AND REDEMPTION: (vs. 1-21)

SINS OF THE PEOPLE:

  1.  Their hands are stained with blood , and their fingers with guilt. (v. 3a)
  2.  Their lips have spoken lies, and their tongues mutters wicked things. (v. 3b)
  3.  No one calls for justice; no one pleads his case with integrity. (v. 4a)
  4.  They rely on empty arguments and peak lies. (v. 4b)
  5.  They conceive trouble and give birth to evil. (v. 4c)
  6.  They hatch the eggs of viper sand spin a spider’s web. (v. 5)
  7.  Their deeds are evil deeds and acts of violence are in their hands. (v. 6)
  8.  Their feet rush into sin and they are swift to shed innocent blood. (v. 7a)
  9.  Their thoughts are evil thoughts, ruin and destruction mark their ways. (v. 7b)
  10.  They do not know the way of peace; there is no justice in their paths. (v. 8a)
  11.  They have turned justice into crooked roads. (v. 8b)
  12.  They rebelled against the Lord and turn their backs on God. (v. 13a)
  13.  They foment oppression and revolt, uttering lies conceived by their hearts. (v. 13b)

CONSEQUENCES OF SIN:

  1.  Justice is far from them and righteousness does not reach them. (v. 9a)
  2.  They look for light, but all is darkness. (v. 9b)
  3.  They grope along the wall with blind eyes and stumble. (v. 10)
  4.  They growl like bears and moan like doves looking for justice but find none. (v. 11)
  5.  Truth has stumbled in the streets and honesty cannot enter. (v. 14)
  6.  Whoever shuns evil becomes a prey. (v. 15)

Since there was no one to intervene, God himself worked on the salvation by putting on righteousness as his breastplate and the helmet of salvation on head.  He put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak. (vs. 16-17).  He became the Savior to repay all their sins and redeem the Israelites who had repented of their sins.

THOUGHTS:

Israel’s willful and persistent rebellion had made the nation unable to take action against its sins.  But God wanted to rescue his people from sin.  So He came himself as a Messiah to personally do the redemptive work.  When we sin, we are separated from God.  But if we repent and ask for forgiveness, He will forgive us and remove our sins.  Are you willing to respond to God’s calling for repentance?
