SCRIPTURE:  JEREMIAH 14

DROUGHT, FAMINE, SWORD (vs. 1-22)

God was sending drought to Judah.  The city had no water,.  The ground is cracked.  Farmers had no harvest and animals had no grass to eat.  The people fasted and offered burnt and grain offerings but God would not accept them because their hearts were far from Him.

The false prophets prophesized lies in God’s name.  They were prophesizing false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own words.  They said no sword nor famine will touch their land.  But those prophets will perish by sword and famine.  And the people will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem because of famine and sword.  No one will be able to bury them.

When Jeremiah wanted to intercede with the people, God refused to come to their aid because the people were insincere, wicked and stubborn.   They wanted blessings but God would only blessed those who were truly repentant.  Their wickedness will surely be punished.

THOUGHTS:

God sent drought as a judgment with devastating consequences.  The people cried out to the Lord but the Lord rejected their plea because they did not repent.  When you pray, be sure your heart is sincere with a repentance heart.

False prophets told people what they wanted to hear – fame and money.  Be vigilant to detect what false teachers are teaching.
