SCRIPTURE: EZEKIEL 15
JERUSALEM A USELESS VINE (vs. 1-8)
The Lord asked: “Is the wood of a vine better than that of a branch or any of the trees in the forest? Do they make pegs from it to hang things on? And after it is thrown on the fire as fuel and the fire burns both ends and chars the middle, is it then useful for anything? If it was not useful for anything when it was whole, how much less can it be made into something useful when the fire has burned it and it is charred” (vs. 3-5)
God is comparing the people of Jerusalem to the wood of the vine. God will set fire against the people and consume them. He will make the land desolate because they have been unfaithful to Him.
THOUGHTS:
Vines are good for bearing fruits. If it does not bear fruit, it is useless. So it will be cut, shaped or burned. The conditions of the Israel in Ezekiel’s day was like that of a vine that does not bear fruits. It is useless because of their idol worship. It is more useless after they are destroyed and their cities being burned. How about you? Are you bearing fruits? Are you faithful to God?
