SCRIPTURE: EZEKIEL 23
TWO ADULTEROUS SISTERS ( vs. 1-49)
This chapter described two sisters named Oholah and Oholibah.. Oholah represents Samaria, the Northern Kingdom while Oholibah represents Jerusalem, the Southern Kingdom of Judah. Oholah engaged in prostitution with the Assyrians and defiled herself with idols. Oholibah was more depraved than her sister. She lusted after the Egyptians, Assyrians and Babylonians. Both committed adultery with their idols and sacrificed their children as food to them. They defiled God’s sanctuary, desecrated the Sabbath day and placed incense and oil that belonged to God. Therefore, the Sovereign Lord punished them. Ohlah was stripped naked and killed with the sword. Her sons and daughters were taken away. Oholibah were being dealt with fury. Some will fall by sword, others will be consumed by fire. Their sons and daughters and their fine jewelry and everything will be taken away leaving them naked and bare. A mob will stone them and cut them down with their swords. They will kill their sons and daughters and burn down their houses.
THOUGHTS:
Both the Northern Kingdom – Samaria and Southern Kingdom – Jerusalem were giving themselves to foreign gods and committing harlotry and adultery. That is why God brought judgment to cleanse them.
The Israelites went too far as to sacrifice their own children to idols and then make sacrifices to the Lord the same day. This made a mockery of worship. We cannot serve God and willfully sin at the same time.
