SCRIPTURE:  EZEKIEL 33

EZEKIEL A WATCHMAN (vs. 1-20)

The Lord assigned Ezekiel to be a watchman for the house of Israel.  As a watchman, he has to speak to the wicked men to dissuade from his way and turn to God.  If the wicked man will not listen, he will die for his sin.  But if the watchman did not warn him, God will hold the watchman accountable for the blood of the sinner.  If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and does evil, he will die for it. (v. 18).  And if a wicked man turns away from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he will live. (v. 19).  God will judge each according to his own ways.

JERUSALEM’S FALL EXPLAINED (vs. 21-33)

REASONS OF JERUSALEM’S DOWNFALL:

  1.  They eat meat with the blood still in it, look to idols and shed blood. (v. 25)
  2.  They rely on sword and do detestable things defying his neighbors wife. (v. 26)
  3.  They express devotion with their mouth but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. (v. 31)
  4.  They hear your words but do not put them into practice. (v. 32)

THOUGHTS:

As a watchman, when he sees the sword coming, he should blow the trumpet and warn the people.  This is a reminder for people to repent with a broken and contrite heart.  Now, we do not have a prophet nor a watchman to tell us what to us.  But we have the inspired Word of God.  We should read His Word and take it seriously by obeying what He says and put it into practice.

The people were coming to Ezekiel in order to be entertained.  They listened to what he said but had no intention of putting it into practice.  Many people regard church as an entertainment.  They enjoy the music, the people and the activities but they do not take the message of God to heart.  They are apathetic toward serving the Lord.  Do you regard church service as an entertainment?  Does your worship truly have an impact in your life?  Listen to God’s word and apply His words into practice in your life.
