SCRIPTURE: ZECHARIAH 5
THE FLYING SCROLL (vs. 1-13)
Zechariah saw a 30 feet long and 50 ft. wide flying scroll. One one side it says every thief will be banished and on the other side, it says everyone who swears falsely will be banished.
THE WOMAN IN A BASKET (vs. 5-11)
Zechariah saw a measuring basket. There was a woman inside the basket. Then he looked up and saw 2 women with the wind in their wings. They had wings like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth. They are taking it to Babylon to build a house.
THOUGHTS:
God condemned the thieves and the liars. A woman was used as the illustration of wickedness because the word “wickedness” in Hebrew is feminine.
Stealing and lying violate the 3rd and 8th commandment of God. The vision showed that wickedness will not only be punished but also banished.
Wickedness and sin would be taken away from Israel and one day sin will be removed from the entire earth. When Christ died, he removed sins’ power. When we trust Christ to forgive us, he removes the penalty of sin and gives us the power to overcome sin in our life. When Christ returns, he will remove all sins from the earth for His people to live in eternal peace.
