Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest and the slave born in your household, and the alien as well, may be refreshed.
“Be careful to do everything I have said to you. Do not invoke the name of other gods, do not let them be heard on your lips.

GOD’S ANGEL TO PREPARE THE WAY (vs. 20-33)
See., I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion, since my Name is in him. If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you. My angel will go ahead of you and bring y8ou into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out. Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pies. Worship the Lord your God, and his blessings will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span.”
“I will send my terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter. I will make all your enemies turn their backs and run. I will send the hornet ahead of you to drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way. But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.
I will establish your borders from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the river. I will hand over to you the people who live in the land and you will drive them out before you. Do not make a covenant wit h them, or with their gods. Do not let them live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.”
THOUGHTS: (From Life Application Study Bible)
Making up or spreading false report was strictly forbidden by God. Gossip, slander and false witnessing undermined families, strained neighborhood cooperation and made the justice system chaos. Destructive gossip caused problems so that if you circulate rumors, you become responsible.
Justice should be impartial and not perverted to favor the rich and harm the poor. Rich and poor should be treated alike. We should be able to withstand the pressure of the crowd by following the guidance of God in making our judgment.
It is very difficult for us to be kind to enemies where revenge is the common form of justice. But God make it a law to reach out to all people in need, even our enemies. By following God’s law of kindness to our enemies, we show we are different from the world.
God warned the Israelites about their neighbors whose beliefs and actions could turn them away from him. We also live with neighbors whose values may be completely different from ours. We are called to maintain a life-style that shows our faith. So, our lives should show that we put obeying God before doing what is praised and accepted by the society.
God continually warned the people to avoid false religions and false gods. In Egypt they had been surrounded by idols and sorcerers , but leaving that land did not mean they were free from pagan religious influences. The land of Canaan was just as infested with idol worship. God knew his people needed extra strength, so he continually emphasized guarding against the influence of pagan religions.
