[:en]Thoughts from Psalms 74[:]

[:en]When Asalph wrote this Psalm, the Jewish people were watching their city and temples being destroyed by the Babylonians.  God allowed the Babylonians to come and destroy the city and temples because of their sins.  They had defiled the temples and disobeyed God.

As Aslph looked around, he saw destructions and dissolutions.  The enemy wrecked the sancturary of God and broke down the temple.  Then he looked back and remembered what God had done in the past.  “He split open the sea by His power.  He crushed the enemies and broke their armies.  He opened up spring and streams from the rock and dried up the rivers.  He established the sun and the moon for the day and night.  He set all the boundaries of the earth and made all the seasons” (vs. 13-17)

Then he appealed to God to raise up, defend His cause and rescue the lives of the afflicted peope.  He wanted to see the city and the people delivered and the enemy defeated.  But he has to pray, trust God and wait until God’s discipline of His people will end and their rebellion conquered.[:]
