Solomon advises people not to over-extend financial resources. Do not act irresponsibly as it will lead you to poverty. Maintan and balance between generosity and good stewarship. Help the needy but do not make unwise commitment by strectching out your hands in pledge for others.
WARNINGS AGAINST LAZINESS (vs. 6-11)
The ant was being made as example. The ant has no commander, no overseer, no ruler, yet it stores its provision in summer and gathers its food at harvest. People who are lazy, who are sleeping instead of working will be poor forever.
WARNINGS AGAINST CORRUPT MOUTH AND DECEITFUL HEART (vs. 12-15)
A man with a corrupt mouth and deceitful heart always stirs up dissension. Disaster will overtake him and he will be destroyed without remedy.
7 THINGS THAT THE LORD HATES AND ARE DESTEABLE TO HIM (vs. 16-19)
- Haughty eyes
- Lying tongue
- Hands that shed innocent blood
- Wicked heart that devise evil schemes
- Feet that are quick to rush into evil
- False witness who pours out lies
- A man who stirs up dissension among brothers
WARNINGS AGAINST ADULTERY (vs. 20-35)
Children must keep father’s command and not forsake mother’s teachings. Bind them upon your heart forever; Fasthen them around your neck. Whatever actions you take – walk, sleep, awake, – they will guide you, watch over you and speak to you. Keep away from immoral woman with smooth tongue. Do not lust in your heart the outward beauty of a woman who leads you to sin. Doing such is like scooping fire into your lap and getting burned or walking on hot coals with your feet being scorched.
CONSEQUENCES OF COMMITTING ADULTERY (32-35)
- It will cost him all of the wealth of his house
- It will destroy himself
- Shame and disgrace will never be wiped away
- It arouses jealousy and the husband will show no mercy
- The husband will not accept compromise or bribe but will take revenge on him.
