Apostle Paul discussed about sinful nature desires versus the Spirit. Sinful desires are: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery, idolatry and witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, orgies and the like. Sinful desires are in conflict with the Spirit so that you do not do what you want. No wonder, Paul said: “For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do – this I keep on doing” (Romans 7:18-19). That is why he was urging believers to live by the Spirit and keep in step with the Spirit (Gal. 5:25) so that the Holy Spirit can empower us to choose to do right.
