[:en]SCRIPTURE: JOHN 6
“Do not work for food that spoils but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On Him, God the Father has placed His seal of approval” (John 6:27)
“It is I, don’t be afraid” (John 6:20)
“I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35)
JESUS FEEDS THE FIVE THOUSAND (vs. 1-15)
Jesus with His disciples crossed over to the far shore of Galilee. Many people followed Him because of the miraculous signs He had performed. Jesus asked Philip where to buy bread for the people. Philip answered Him: “|Eight month’s wages would not buy enough bread for each one to bite” (v. 7) But Andrew told Jesus that there is a boy with five small barley loaves and 2 small fish (v. 9). Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks and distributed. All ate with 12 basket leftovers. After people saw this miracle, many said: “Surely, this is the prophet who is to come into the world” (v. 14)
JESUS WALKS IN WATER (vs. 16-24)
The disciples got into a boat to set off across the lake for Capernaum. Jesus did not join them. While they were rowing the boat, they were terrified when they saw Jesus approaching them walking on the water. Jesus said to them: “It is I. Don’t be afraid” (v. 20). They took Jesus into the boat and reached the shore.
JESUS THE BREAD OF LIFE (vs. 25-59)
Declaration of Jesus:
- “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry and he who believes in me will never be thirsty” (v. 35)
- I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of Him who sent me. My father’s will is that everyone who look to the Son believes in Him shall have eternal life and I will raise him up at the last day. (v. 40)
- I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world” (v. 51)
- Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. (v. 56)
MANY DISCIPLES DESERT JESUS (vs. 60-71)
Because of what Jesus said, many disciples cannot accept it and deserted Him. Jesus asked the twelve: “Do you want to leave also? (v. 67). Simon Peter said: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God” (vs. 68-69). Jesus replied: “Have I not chosen you the twelve? Yet one of you is a devil! (v. 70)
LESSON:
- Our physical body needs food to keep us alive. Jesus fed the 5000 to satisfy their hunger. He wants us to know that He can provide our needs.
- When you are in frightening situation, remember what Jesus said: It is I, don’t be afraid”.
- Jesus is the Bread of Life. We need His Word to grow spiritually. Are you reading His Word?
