“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you so. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:1-3)
“I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6)
“You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it” (John 14:14)
“If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever” (John 14:15)
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27)
JESUS COMFORTS HIS DISCIPLES (vs. 1-4)
Jesus was leaving His disciples and His disciples’ heart were troubled. So Jesus comforted them with the assurance that He will prepare a place for them to be with Him.
JESUS THE WAY TO THE FATHER (vs. 5-14)
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and the way to His Father is through Him (v. 6). He revealed to His disciples that He and His Father are one and that the Father is in Him (v. 10). He promised to do whatever we ask in His name so that He may bring glory to the Father (vs. 12-13)
JESUS PROMISES THE HOLY SPIRIT (vs. 15-31)
Jesus said: “If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father and He will give you another Counselor to be with your forever (v. 16). The Holy Spirit is also called the Spirit of Truth. And the Word of God is the Truth to convict sinners and guide the saints. Jesus stressed the importance of obeying His commands. To love God is to obey His teachings. Lastly, Jesus told them not to be troubled or afraid because He is giving them peace that the world does not give. He assured them of His coming back.
SUMMARY:
THE COMFORTING ASSURANCE OF JESUS:
- Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me (v. 1)
- I will prepare a place for you in heaven (v. 2)
- I will come back and take you to be with me (v. 3)
- I am the way, the truth and the life. No one come to the Father except through me (v. 6)
- Believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me (v. 11)
- Anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these (v. 12)
- I will do whatever you ask in my name (v. 13)
- Anyone that loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him (v. 23)
- I will ask my Father to give you the Counselor – the Spirit of Truth to be with you and teach you all things (v. 26)
- I will give you peace that the world can’t give (v. 27)
- I am going and I will be coming back to you (v. 28)
Let us love God by obeying His command for His command lead us to eternal life. Let us experience His peace – the peace of God, the peace with God and the peace with men.[:]
