[:en]SCRIPTURE:  1 CORINTHIANS 6

“Therefore, if you have disputes with one another, appoint judges even men of little account in the church.  Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?  But instead, a brother goes to law against another – and this is in front of unbelievers!” (1 Corinthians 6:4-6)

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own; you were bought at a price.  Therefore, honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

LAWSUITS AMONG BELIEVERS (vs. 1-11)

The Corinthian believers were losing their testimony and disgracing the name of the Lord before the unbelievers by taking each other to court before pagan judges.  Paul was telling them to settle their dispute among themselves. They should call some spiritual believers to meet and help them decide.  If the matter is known to the world, the members should appoint a group to examine the matter and give spiritual counsel.  The dispute is not to spread before an unsaved judge

SEXUAL IMMORALITY (vs. 12-20)

Corinthian is a city of immorality with terrible sins.  Some Christians were looking for excuses by saying that since they were saved, they could sin and still go to heaven.  Paul refuted them by saying, “A Christian still has the ability to sin, but not the desire to sin.  The new birth brings a new nature because they are washed, sanctified and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.  The Christian must break his old life and live a new life by refraining from sin.  The liberty they have from the law is not the license to do whatever he pleases.  When a man is saved, his body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.  When he sins against the body, he sins against Christ and the Holy Spirit and himself.  Christians are to glorify God with their bodies”.

“Everybody is doing it” does not mean it is right to do it.  A Christian must not commit sexual sin and violate God’s moral code.  Married Christians are not to break their wedding vows.  Believers must focus their eyes on Jesus, feed on God’s Word and grow in the Lord.[:]
