[:en]SCRIPTURE:  1 CORINTHIANS 11

“This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.  This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11:24-25)

“For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment on himself” (1 Corinthians 11:29)

PROPRIETY IN WORSHIP (vs. 1-16)

The worship service of Corinthian church was disorderly and confusing.  So, Paul laid down important principles to govern their services.  Christ is the head of every man and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.  During their times, a woman is supposed to wear a veil (or covering) to show subordination to the Lord and to her husband.  As a woman is created for the man, she is not to compete public leadership in church with man.  She must keep her proper place at church.  A woman with long hair is her glory, and it is a disgrace for her to have short hair.  But a man with  long hair is a disgrace to him.  He should not cover his head since he is the image and glory of God.

THE LORD’S SUPPER (vs. 17-34)

The early church had the tradition of having a “love feast”, a fellowship meal in conjunction with the Lord’s Supper.  The Corinthian church showed their divisions during the “love feasts” because the rich came with bounties humiliating those who have nothing.  Some ate ahead getting drunk while others remained hungry.  Paul told them to eat at home to avoid judgment.

Christ instituted the Last Supper with the disciples when He took the bread, gave thanks and broke it.  The bread represents His Body and the cup represents His blood.  They were to observe the communion in remembrance of Him until He comes.

Important things to observe when partaking the Holy Communion:

  1. Examine yourself and confess your sins.  Otherwise, you will be under judgment of God.
  2. Remember how Christ had died for us.
  3. Look forward to His second coming
