[:en]SCRIPTURE: 2 CORINTHIANS 7
“Since we have these promises dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God” (2 Corinthians 7:1)
“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death” (2 Corinthians 7:10)
PAUL’S JOY (vs. 1-16)
Although Paul underwent many trials, but he also experienced the following “comfort” from the Corinthian believers:
- The coming of Titus
- Their good treatment to Titus
- Their concern and longing to see him
- The deep sorrow for their sins and their repentance
- The obedience to deal with the offender
SUMMARY:
Paul told the Corinthian church to cleanse themselves and put away things that defile. He taught them important doctrine of repentance. There is a difference between repentance and regret. Repentance is from God, while regret is from the world. Repentance draws people closer to God and brings them to a place of confession and forgiveness. Regret drives people away from God and into the despair of death. Every Christian must give comfort to Christian workers by receiving them with affection, respecting their leadership, and obeying God’s Word.
