[:en]SCRIPTURE: JOB 16
“But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief” (Job 16:5)
“My face is red with weeping, deep shadows ring my eyes; yet my hands have been free of violence and my prayer is pure” (Job 16:16-17)
The three friends of Job were miserable comforters. Instead of comforting him, they added to his pain. Their words have devastated and shattered him like archers targeting him. He was in deep sorrow. Jobe said that if situation were reversed, he would have sopken words of strength and help to them in their suggering.
Job mentioned what God did to him:
- God had turned him over to evil men and throw him into the clutch of the wicked. (v. 11)
- God had shattered him and seized him by the neck and crushed him (v. 12)
- God had made archers pierced him (v. 13)
- God rushed at him like a warrior and burst upon him (v. 14)
How he wished he had a mediator who could represent him and plead with God for justice.
