[:en]SCRIPTURE:  PSALM 52

“But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.  I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good.  I will praise you in the presence of your saints” (Psalm 52:8-9)

Doeg was an Edomite who spied for Saul.  When David learned that Doeg had gone to Saul and told him: “David had gone to the house of Ahimelech”, he asked God to deal with him.  Doeg’s tongue was sharp, deceitful and evil.  He plotted destruction against David.  He trusted in his great wealth and grew strong to destroy others.  He was a self-sufficient man whose life was built on sin without foundation.   One day, God will bring him down to everlasting ruin and uproot him from the land of the living.

But David focused on the goodness and justice of God.  He described himself as an olive flourishing in the house of God.  He ended up trusting in God’s unfailing love.  He praised the Lord and hope in His name.  His root system was permanent and productive.  He ended up bearing fruit for the glory of God.[:]
