[:en]SCRIPTURE: PSALM 72
“Praise be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen.” (Psalm 72:18-19)
This is a prayer of David written for Solomon when he became king. It also revealed our Lord Jesus Christ who is greater than Solomon.
WHAT DID DAVID ASK FROM GOD FOR SOLOMON?
- That he judge with righteousness (v. 2)
- That there will be prosperity among the people (v. 3)
- That Solomon will defend the afflicted, save the needy and crush the oppressor (v. 4)
- That he will endure through all generations (v. 5)
- That he will rule with power crushing his enemies and all will respect and pay tribute to him (vs. 9-11)
- That people will pray for him and bless him (v. l5)
- That he will reap bountiful harvest of grain and fruits.
- That his name will endure forever.
David wanted Solomon to be a righteous man with integrity and honesty in exercising kingly judgment. He wanted him to become great with God’s blessing of peace and prosperity. He also wished that Solomon’s name will endure forever.
In the book of Hebrews, Jesus is described as Melchizedek, the king of Salem and priest of God Most-High. Jesus is the king of righteousness and the king of peace (Heb. 7:1-2). He brings prosperity and showers blessings to make us fruitful for His glory. We have to worship and obey Him.
Jesus Christ has an enduring name, a name that is above every name. (Phil. 2:9). His name brings blessings. His name can do wonderful things – healing, salvation, comfort, strength. Do you want to know Jesus and trust His name?[:]
