[:en]SCRIPTURE: PSALM 89
“I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth, I will make your faithfulness known through generations/ I will declare that your love stands firm forever; that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself” (Psalm 89:1-2)
“For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord? Who is likde the Lord among the heavenly beings?” (Psalm 89:6)
“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you. ” (Psalm 89:14)
“Blessed are those hoo have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord” (Psalm 89:15)
“How long, O Lord? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire? Remember how fleeting is my life. For what futility you have created all men!” (Psalm 89:46-47)
God made a covenant with David that his descendants would be on the throne and rule forever. At first, Ethan the Ezrahite sang of the Lord’s great love and faithfulness. He praised His wonderful creation of skies, sea and heavens. However, when he saw the defeat and the end of Davidic kings, he thought that God had broken the covenant and was no longer faithful to His promise. He was doubting God’s love and righteousness. He saw the crown of the anointed one being defiled, his strongholds ruined. The enemies were rejoicing over their defeat in battle. His throne was cast to the ground and he was covered with shame. That was why he said: “How long, O Lord? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?” (v. 46). However, he reminded God of his promise and ended up praising God saying: “Praise be to the Lord forever. Amen and Amen” (v. 52) because he was confident that God’s lovingkindness and faithfulness never fail.
The faithfulness of God is being emphasized in this Psalm. He is faithful to His Word because he never changes. He is faithful to chasten us so that we can repent. He is faithful to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. What we need to do is to trust in Him, submit to Him and walk with Him.[:]
