[:en]SCRIPTURE: PSALM 136
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords; His love endures forever” (Psalm 136:1-3)
“Give thanks to the God of heaven, His love endures forever” (Psalm 136:26)
Psalm 136 emphasized ‘THE LOVE OF GOD”. It was sang by two choirs. One choir sang the first line of each verse and the other choir responded “His love endures forever”. They were thankful for His love and mercy.
Why did the Israelites give thanks to the Lord?
- He is the Lord, the God of gods, Lord of lords and the God of heaven who is good (vs. 1-3, 26)
- He does great wonders (v. 4)
- He made the heavens (v. 5)
- He spread out the earth upon the waters (v. 6)
- He made the great lights (v. 7)
- He let the sun govern the day (v. 8)
- He let the moon and stars govern the night (v. 9)
- He stuck down the first born of Egypt (v. 10)
- He brought Israel out from Egypt with a mighty hand (vs. 11-12)
- He divided the Red Sea and brought the Israelites out (vs. 13-14)
- He swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Dea (v. 15)
- He led His people through the desert (v. 16)
- He struck down great kings and killed mighty kings and gave the land as an inheritance for Israel (vs. 17-22)
- He remembered us in our low estate (v. 23)
- He freed us from our enemies (v. 24)
- He gives food to every creature (v. 25)
As what God had done to the Israelites before, God is also going to bring us out and set us free today. He wants to bring us through the deep water and wilderness experience of life and lead us into His inheritance that he has for us. Let us give thanks to the Lord for His love, mercy and care. For His love endures forever![:]
