“My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord.  Let every creature praise his holy name for ever and ever” (Psalm 145:21)

David wrote this Psalm exalting God and praising His name.  He gave several reasons why the Lord deserves to be praised:

  1.  The Lord is GREAT (v. 3) – His wondrous works, His mighty acts, His glorious splendor of majesty, His great deeds and His righteousness show His abundant greatness no one can fathom.
  2. The Lord is GRACIOUS  (v. 8) – His tender mercy forgives our sins.
  3. The Lord is COMPASSIONATE (v. 8b) – He is slow to anger and rich in love.
  4. The Lord is GOOD (v. 9) – He is good to all that He has made.
  5. The Lord is FAITHFUL (v. 13) – He fulfills His promises towards all he has made.  He upholds those who fall and lifts up all who are burdened.  He provides our needs and satisfies the desires of very living things.
  6. The Lord is RIGHTEOUS (v. 17a) – He is just in all His ways
  7. The Lord is LOVING (v. 17b) – He loves all that He has made
  8. The Lord is always PRESENT (v. 18) – He is near to all who call on Him in truth.
  9. The Lord is CARING (v. 20) – He watches  over all who love Him.

GOD’S GREAT PROMISES TO BE NEAR TO THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Those who fall (v. 14) – The Lord upholds them and lifts them up.
  2. Those who are needy (vs. 15-16) – He gives food at proper time and satisfies the desires of every living things.
  3. Those who call upon Him (v. 18) – He hears their cry and saves them.
  4. Those who love Him (v. 20) – He watches them and destroys the wicked.

Let us take the first step to cry out to the Lord.  When you are stumbling, hungry and burdened, draw near to God and He will draw near to you.  Praise Him and extol His name.  Praise His holy name for ever and ever.
