“An unfriendly man pursues selfish ends; he defies all sound judgment” (Proverbs 18:1)
“A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions” (Proverbs 18:2)
“The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook” (Proverbs 18:4)
“It is not good to be partial to the wicked or to deprive the innocent of justice” Proverbs 18:5)
“The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man’s inmost parts” (Proverbs 18:8)
“Before his downfall a man’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honor” (Proverbs 18:12)
“He who answers before listening – that is his folly and his shame” (Proverbs 18:13)
“Casting the lot settles disputes and keeps strong opponents apart” (Proverbs 18:18)
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21)
Friendship is important. But it has its risks. We may have many acquaintances but we should know how to choose real friend.
CHARACTERISTICS OF FRIENDS TO AVOID:
- One who pursues selfish ends and defies all sound judgment (v. 1)
- One who finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his our opinions (v. 2)
- One who is partial to the wicked and despise the innocent of justice (v. 5)
- One who is fond of gossiping (v. 8)
- One who is lazy (v. 9)
- One who is proud (v. 12)
- One who answers before listening (v. 13)
- One who answers harshly (v. 23)
Be a true friend and God will give you true friends who will stick close to you through your life.
