[:en]SCRIPTURE:  Proverbs 27

“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth” (Proverbs 27:1)

“Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips” (Proverbs 27:2)

“Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?” (Proverbs 27:4)

“Better is open rebuke than hidden love.  Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses” (Proverbs 27:5-6)

“Do not forsake your friend and the friend of your father, and do not go to your brother’s house when disaster strikes you- better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away” (Proverbs 26:10)

“A quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping on a raining day; restraining her is like restraining the wind or grasping oil with the hand” (Proverbs 26″15)

“Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations (Proverbs 23-24)

 

YOU SHOULD NOT:

  1.  Boast about tomorrow for you do not know what is ahead (v. 1)
  2. Praise yourself with your own lips (v. 2b)
  3. Become jealous to someone (v. 4)
  4. Trust the kisses of your enemies (v. 6)
  5. Stray from your home (v. 8)
  6. Forsake your fiend and the friend of your father (v. 10a)
  7. Go to your brother’s house when disaster strikes you. (v. 10b)
  8. Put up security for a stranger and pledge for a wayward woman (v. 13)
  9. Be a quarrelsome wife (v. 15)

 

YOU SHOULD:

  1.  Let another praise you (v. 2a)
  2. Accept the earnest counsel of your friend (v. 9)
  3. Be wise and bring joy to your heart (v. 11)
  4. Be prudent to see danger and take refuge (v. 12)
  5. Know the condition of your flocks and give careful attention to your herd (v. 23)

True friendship involves encouragement, loving counsel with truth, and honest praise. Do not use flattery to manipulate people.  Beware of the kisses of an enemy.  You need to be loyal to family and neighbors because you do not know when you many need them.  Not everyone will become your close friend, so do not get so exclusive to a few that you neglect other people.[:]
