[:en]SCRIPTURE:  PROVERBS 30

“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.  Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar” (Proverbs 30:5-6)

“Two things I ask of you, O Lord; do not refuse me before I die; Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.  Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, “Who is the Lord?” Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God” (Proverbs 30:7-9)

“The eye that mocks a father, that scorns obedience to a mother, will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, will be eaten by the vultures” (Proverbs 30:17)

“There are three things that are too amazing for me, four that I do not understand:  the way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a snake on a rock, the way of a ship on the high seas, and the way of a man with a maiden” (Proverbs 30:18-19)

TWO THINGS AGUR ASKED FROM GOD:

  1.  Keep falsehood and lies from me (v. 8a)
  2. Give me neither poverty nor riches but only my daily bread (v. 8b)

DANGEROUS PEOPLE TO AVOID

  1. Those who curse their father and mother (v. 11)
  2. Those who are filthy but consider themselves pure (v. 12)
  3. Those who have haughty eyes and disdainful glances (v. 13
  4. Those who devour the poor and needy with sharp teeth and sword haws (v. 14)

3 THINGS THAT ARE NEVER SATISFIED (v. 15-16)

  1.  the grave
  2.  the barren womb
  3.  the land

3 AMAZING THINGS AND FOUR THAT AGUR DID NOT UNDERSTAND (vs. 18-19)

  1. The way of an eagle in the sky
  2. The way of a snake on a rock
  3. The way of a ship on the high seas
  4. The way of a man with a maiden

3 THINGS THAT MAKE THE EARTH TREMBLES AND FOUR THAT CANNOT BEAR UP: (v. 21-23)

  1.  A servant who becomes king
  2. A fool who is full of food
  3. An unloved woman who is married
  4. A maidservant who displaces her mistress

4 THINGS THAT ARE SMALL BUT WISE (v.s 24-285)

  1.  Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer
  2. Coneys are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags
  3. Locust have no king, yet they advance together in ranks
  4. Lizard can be caught with the hand, yet it is found in kings’ palaces

3 THINGS THAT ARE STATELY IN THEIR STRIDE AND FOUR THAT MOVE WITH STATELY BEARING:

  1.  A lion
  2. A strutting rooster
  3. A he-goat
  4. A king with his army around him

Be honest and be contented.  Avoid dangerous people.  Learn from ants to prepare, the coneys to protect, the locust to cooperate and the lizard to find comfort.  Do not exalt yourself to gain artificial honor.  Let God fulfill in you the purpose for which He has made you.[:]
