[:en]SCRIPTURE: ECCLESIASTES 5
“Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few” (Ecclesiaste 5:2)
“When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools, fulfill your vow. It is better not to vow that to make a vow and not fulfill it” (Ecclesiastes 5:4-5)
“Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless” (Ecclesiastes 5:10)
“The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of a rich man permits him no sleep” (Ecclesiastes 5:12)
“Naked a man comes from his mother’s womb, and as he comes, so he departs. He takes nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand” (Ecclesiastes 5:15)
“When God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enable shim to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work – this is a gift of God” (Ecclesiastes 5:19)
STAND IN AWE OF GOD (vs. 1-7)
Watch your mouth when you speak. Pray to God truthfully. Do not make rush promises to God which you cannot fulfill. It is better not to make a vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it. Be honest with God.
RICHES ARE MEANINGLESS (v. 8-20)
Rich people have enough money but they always think of getting more (v. 10). The laborer has less but he can enjoy sweet sleep but the rich has plenty but is unable to sleep (v. 12). Sometimes, hoarded wealth causes harm to its owner (v. 13). Naked a man comes and when he departs, he takes nothing from his labor (v. 15). All his toils results in great frustration, affliction and anger.
Solomon concluded that it is good and proper for a man to enjoy and find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during his fews days of life God has given him (v. 18).
Be thankful for what you have. Enjoy your wealth and possessions while you can, for this is a gift of God.
