[:en]SCRIPTURE:  ISAIAH 31

“But the Egyptians are men and not God; their horse are flesh and not spirit.  When the Lord stretches out his hand, he who helps will stumble, he who is helped will fall’ both will perish together” (Isaiah 31:3)

“Like birds hovering overhead, the Lord Almighty will shield Jerusalem; he will shield it and deliver it, he will ‘pass over’ it and will rescue it” (Isaiah 31:5)

WOE TO THOSE WHO RELY ON EGYPT

The leaders of Judah went to Egypt for help when the Assyrians threatened them.  They trusted their horses, chariots and strength of their horsemen.  They did not seek help from the Holy one of Israel.  But the Egyptians were only men of flesh.  Their strength were limited.  They could not help.  They will stumble, fall and perish (vs. 1-3).  But the Lord Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion.  He will shield Jerusalem and rescue it (vs. 4-5)

God was calling the Israelites to repent and reject the idols of silver or gold that they made.  He was going to ruin Assyria with sword.  Their commander will panic and their stronghold will fall. (vs. 6-9)

Do not rely on the help from men.  For men are not God. They are but flesh.  Seek God’s guidance.  Trust in Him and wait upon the Lord.  Only He can give you victory with a song of joy.
