[:en]SCRIPTURE:  ISAIAH 40

“All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field.  The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them.  Surely the people are grass.  The grass withers  and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever” (Isaiah 40:6-8)

“He tends his flock like a shepherd:  He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young” (Isaiah 40:11)

“Do you not know?  Have you not heard?  The Lord is the everlasting god, the Creator of the ends of the earth.  He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.  He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak” (Isaiah 40:28-29)

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young mens tumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:30-31)

COMFORT FOR GOD’S PEOPLE

A)- A Voice of Calling (vs. 3-5)                                                                      God had completed his chastening.  He is now calling them to prepare the way for the Lord with a new beginning.  Mankind shall see the glory of the Lord.

B)- A Voice of Crying (vs. 6-8)                                                                     All men are like grass and flowers.  The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of God stands forever.

C)-  A Voice of Shouting (vs. 9-17)                                                               Share the good tidings and mighty power of the Lord.  He is a shepherd who cares for his lambs.  He is the creator of heavens and the earth and everything in under His control.

TO WHOM WILL YOU COMPARE GOD?  (vs. 18-26)

  1.  An idol cannot be compared to God because it is made by man.  Craftsman casts it, goldsmith overlays it with gold and fashion it with silver.  But it cannot do anything.  But God sits enthroned above the circle of the earth.  He stretches out the heavens for men to live in.  Rulers of the earth are under him.  Men plant seeds and grow but when God blows on them, it withers like a chaff.
  2. No one is equal to God. No one has great power and mighty strength like Him.

HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD?

  1.  The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the heavens and the earth.  He will not grow tired or weary and his understanding no one can fathom (v. 28)
  2. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak (v. 30)
  3. He renews strength to those who hope in Him so that they will soar on wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary.  They will walk and not be faint (v. 31)
