[:en]SCRIPTURE:  JEREMIAH 2

“I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and rich produce.  But you came and defiled my land and made my inheritance detestable” (Jeremiah 2:7)

“My people have committed two sins:  They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns broken cisterns that cannot hold water” (Jeremiah 2:13)

“Your wicknedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you.  Consider then and realize how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the Lord your God and have no awe of me” declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty” (Jeremiah 2:19)

“I     had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock.  How then did you turn against me into a corrupt, wild vine?” (Jeremiah 2:21)

HOW DID THE ISRAELITES FORSOOK GOD?

  1.  They strayed away from God and followed worthless idols (vs. 4-6)
  2. They defiled the futile land and made His inheritance detestable (v. 7)
  3. They were backsliding and did wicked deeds (v. 19)
  4. They became a degenerated vine that bore no fruit (v. 21)
  5. Their sins could not be cleaned with soda or soap (v. 22)
  6. They were unfaithful wife like a swift she-camel running here and there (v. 23)
  7. They turned their backs against the Lord and worship wood and stones (v. 27)
  8. They have sinned and yet they said “I am innocent” (v. 34)
